Strap Measurement Guide

There are two ways to find out the lug width of your watch.

  1. Firstly, you can Google "<watch brand and model> lug width" and see if there is an answer from the brand's website, or some other websites.
  2. Alternatively, you can simply take a ruler and measure the lug width directly on your watch.

Lug widths are typically in whole numbers, and while the most common lug widths are between 18-22mm, they can go down to 8mm or up to 32mm even. Our ready stock straps are available in 12mm,14mm,16mm, 18mm, 19mm, 20mm, 21mm, 22mm, 24mm and 26mm. If you need other lug widths, you can have it custom made.

You will then need to purchase a strap with the same lug width. For example, if your watch has a lug width of 20mm, you will need a 20mm strap to fit your watch.

FAQ

What is the size of of my AP Royal Oak watch?

There are 3 ways to identify the correct strap size for your Royal Oak:

1. Measure the Lug Width

Use a caliper or ruler to measure the width of the strap where it meets the case. The Royal Oak uses an integrated design where the strap must match the width of the "plots" (the metal links attached to the case):

  • 26mm: The standard width for the 41mm models.
  • 24mm: The standard width for the 39mm models (e.g., 15202 "Jumbo").
  • 22mm: Typically found on the 37mm mid-size variants.

2. Match with Case Diameter & Generation

Strap compatibility depends on the specific generation of your Royal Oak. While there are currently three generations of the 41mm series, the straps we are offering are engineered specifically for the second generation.

41mm Second Generation Models:
The following models share the same 26mm lug architecture and are compatible with this strap collection:

  • 15400: The 41mm Self-Winding.
  • 26331 / 26320: The 41mm Self-Winding Chronographs.
  • 15407: The 41mm Double Balance Wheel Openworked.

(Note: These will not provide a flush fit for the first generation or the current third generation (15500/15510) due to changes in case thickness and plot geometry.)

3. Check the Caseback Reference

The reference number engraved on your caseback is the most reliable way to confirm fitment. Search this number to ensure your watch belongs to the second-generation 41mm family:

  • Compatible References: 15400, 26331, 26320, 15407.
  • Incompatible References: 15500, 15510, 26240 (Third Gen) or 15300 (39mm).

Always consult your warranty card or original paperwork to verify your specific reference number before selecting your size.

How do I change my watch strap?

1. Use the correct tools
Most Royal Oak Offshore models use a screw-and-tube system to secure the strap to the plots (the metal links attached to the case). You will typically need two specialized 1.6mm screwdrivers—one to hold the screw head on one side and another to unscrew from the opposite side.

2. Unscrew the lug plots
Carefully insert the screwdrivers into both ends of the lug bar. While holding one side steady, rotate the other counter-clockwise to loosen the screw. Work on a soft microfiber mat to prevent the screwdriver from slipping and scratching the brushed or polished finish of the case.

3. Remove the strap and hardware
Once the screw is removed, push the metal tube through the strap and the plots to detach the current strap. Ensure you keep the metal inserts (tubes) and screws in a secure place, as these are essential for installing the new strap.

4. Install the new strap
Align the new strap with the case plots. Slide the metal tube through the lug holes and the strap, then insert the screw. Hold one side fixed with your screwdriver while tightening the other securely. Ensure the fit is snug but avoid over-tightening to prevent stripping the threads.
